Ready and Waiting

It rained all night and my husband informed me Farmer's Almanac predicted a very wet year so I gave in and let the kids pick out umbrellas. (I've been waiting for rain coats but oddly haven't had much luck finding them.) The kids were so excited (and yes, Brinley chose Spiderman over Disney Princesses) that they waited outside for some more rain this afternoon. No rain, but they had fun chasing after them when the wind blew them across the driveway.
And Ben loves to pop it open at you, which he also did at Wal-mart to unsuspecting shoppers.
Today also marks the 20th week of my pregnancy so we're half-way there!

Looks like daddy

Brinley decided that our scarecrow we made today "looks like daddy". Jared from Subway I can understand, but this scarecrow? The only resemblance is the old boots he's wearing (and they didn't make it into the pictures). And don't ya love the sombrero from Pancho's ? He fills the big empty spot on our porch nicely and the kids like him.
Bryce worked this weekend so this scarecrow and my Apple Pecan Cheesecake were our projects. The cheesecake turned out good except one thing threw my for a loop- one line of the ingredient list read just like this...
1 1/2 cups plus 2 Tbsp. packed brown sugar, divided 2 Tbsp. brown sugar
Is it just me or is this odd? maybe a typo? Okay I understand 1 1/2 cups plus 2 tbsp. and this is to be divided between the actual cheesecake and the topping but the last 2 tbsp. the recipe never specified what to do with them, so I did nothing. It still turned out but maybe next time I'll just add them to the topping : )
And I have to mention...today is my little sis's 30th Birthday!!! Happy Birthday Lin! and welcome to your 30's.

Out with the old, in with the cold

When Brinley comes shuffling into my room at 6 am and her little arms are cold, I realize it's time to take out the winter pajamas. So that's what we did all morning, go through the winter clothes from last year to see what still fits. And I get so proud of myself when I find the clearance deals I bought earlier this year that will now fit : ) I wasn't prepared for Ben's enthusiasm...he remembered this Gap fleece pull over and eagerly tried it on. Also his Gap camouflage hoodie (because "that's what soldiers wear"), and his football "jersey" he calls it - long sleeve tee with numbers which technically the sleeves are getting too short but he was so excited, he wore it all morning with a pair of "wind" pants (even though today's high is 80) so I guess we'll wear it another year.
Brinley loved trying on Ben's tool pj's that were in the "out with the old" pile but then she started to cry when she realized they were too big...
We also went through a few baby things and washed some to have ready. Yes, I know it's early but it's still exciting...even the 3rd time around!

Doctor appointments

Ben went in for his flu mist vaccine (Brinley goes on Monday) then onto my OB's office for my vaccine & check-up...everything looks good. Defect screening results were great, sonogram was completely normal and I only gained 1 pound this time - whew! And the new due date is...February 23rd. So you may have noticed my new ticker - hopefully the new date will stick. My next appointment is in November and I'll have another sonogram in 10 weeks so I (and my weary kiddos) get a little break until then.

Lost & Found

Remember my driver's license that disappeared back in August and caused me to wait in a horrendous (hot!) line at the DMV to re-apply? Guess what - Bank of America called and I had left it there! Why it took them 6 weeks to contact me, I don't know but I'm relieved because my new one I applied for (that should've arrived in 2 weeks) still has not shown! Yeah, I'm legal again.

Tied up

Sometimes as a mommy you get all tied up with "domestic engineer" duties - i.e. I was on the phone with directv customer service in the other room and when I get off I find this... Yarn that Ben got out of our craft supply cabinet and it's kinda hard to see because it's white but it went all around - between couches, chairs, and back through the kitchen. Brinley was upset her chair was caught in it.
I'm not complaining though because it's definitely one of the easier messes I've had to clean - no scrubbing required : )
