It's getting gross, girls

It's been 2 weeks with no poo (shampoo, that is) and I do not have a head of luscious locks!
I will tell you the grossest part:
Last week while blow drying my hair, I thought "wow, this is taking a while...it's not drying"
Oh, my hair was dry...it was just so greasy at the roots, that I though it was still wet!!!
Okay, collective EEWWW!
But you've seen the pictures...a little powder and it passes for normal.
I don't really like how the baking soda makes my hair feel (gunky, tangly) so today I did just a vinegar rinse but that didn't do the job, so it's another ponytail day.
Also my color has really gone downhill and needs help but since my hubby is working most weekends, I won't be making it to the salon soon so I bought some hair dye.
Just haven't gotten up the nerve to use it yet.
I'm obviously going to have to shampoo it out, therefore my streak will be broken.
And if it's too dark, I will have to wash it often to strip some of the color out.
The "no pooing" experiment may be over...

Love Lessons

Sitting in church on Mother's day we were listening to the minister speak of mothers (of course) and how often it's mothers, by example, that lead their children to the Lord ....he asked "After all it is from our mothers that we first learn about unconditional love, right?"
Ben shook his head no, then looks up at me and asks "did you teach me that?"
He must think I left out that lesson when we were learning our ABC's and colors ; )

Oops...but now it's Mother's Day

A few days ago I tripped on my laptop's power cord and broke it off...completely off...in the computer. So I spent a day seeing about getting it repaired (it's gonna take 2 weeks to send it for a replacement jack) and picking out a new desktop because we kinda "need" one anyway. Then another day getting virus protection/spyware and tracking down a disc with my air card program...

Anyway now I'm a little behind because I have pictures to post from Friday's tea party and walkathon and Saturday's birthday party golf game...but it's Mother's Day so I'm gonna go wrangle my kids instead :)

I'll leave you with one of my favorite quotes, author unknown...

"Every mother is a working mother"

Bowen has moved

His new address is...the crib! He's doing great and sleeps until around 4am before he gets hungry but then goes right back to sleep - so nice to have fallen into a pattern! We'll work on our day patterns before too long : )

In other Bowen news...he coos, it's absolutely adorable!! Also he has outgrown all his long sleeved clothes because they were all either newborn/0-3 mos. He has grown into size 2 diapers. This little fatty wasn't in size 1 for even a month!

My crazy girl

She has been in rare form lately!
I think it's something about her age...she knows just enough to be dangerous (0r hilarious).
3..2..1...Blast off!

She calls this her "space suit". This is how she dresses to go out to play...

well, until I stop her anyway.

Notice her camo band aid??
Her band aid habit continues...I got camo for Ben thinking she wouldn't want them but since he said they were "cool" she also liked them and used that whole box, too.

In the car she and Bowen face each other.
Here is the danger in that:

"He looks like a fish" she said.
I turn around to find her squeezing his cheeks together to give him fish lips! He was not happy.

Another time she stretched her foot over to him and said...
"Smell it, smell it..now take it! That's for you Bowen"
Don't mess with the Brinley!

One night while getting dressed for bed she was saying "don't do me like that. Don't do me like that"...it took us a minute to realize she was singing the Tom Petty song :)

Another night she said "if you shake your arms like this...coconuts will fall out of your bones" - lol.

And one of her new favorite sayings, besides "you're freaking me out" is "my tummy is doing the cha-cha for ice cream"
(or whatever treat she's begging for - lol)

No poo continues...

It's been one week since my last real shampoo (you're supposed to use the baking soda 2 times a week but I think today was my 3rd time) and although I really don't like posting my big cheesy mug, I feel it's only fair you get to see what my hair looks like, bad pic and all. I can't believe how normal it looks.

That being said, it doesn't feel good - I usually prefer to wear it up, especially now. I don't like to run my fingers through it (but it's not itchy) and I'm becoming a bit concerned about the amount of powder in it, lol.

My husband, as you may have read, is begging me to wash it but he used to take 3 showers a day so he's not normal himself (can you say OCD?)...and my sister said it doesn't stink (thanks for being brave enough to smell, Lin).

I didn't think the whole "color treated hair" thing through, though because my hair is highlighted (remember January's color fiasco?) and I do need to have it high/lowlighted again or maybe I'll do an all-over color...any thoughts about how to proceed?

The Triathlon

This weekend was Bryce's triathlon, okay technically a "mini-triathlon" but whatever...it's a lot of work.
So we headed to Texas Saturday afternoon- Bryce picked up his packet at the race site then we headed to my sister's and waited out a storm before going to eat and heading to Bryce's parents house for the night.
Sunday morning came early - it started at 7 am and Bryce had to be there about an hour before. Anyway, me, the kids, Nece & Pawpaw went to watch and support Daddy :)
I'll warn you now - my pictures are not so great.
The race started with the swim. We were up in the bleachers watching...
"Hi Daddy!"

This is Bowen's "why am I waking up in the Mckinney High School Natatorium?" look - lol.

Ben being Ben.
It was a cold, misty morning so I know they were freezing as they ran out of the pool down to the "transition site" to hop on their bikes...

Bryce recruited Luke to do the triathlon with him.
Here's his wife Paige & son Turner with Bowen and Brinley...
You'll be seeing a lot more of them next month because we are going on vacation (to Florida- yay!) with them!!

Bryce got back from biking pretty quick and took off running...
Here he is approaching the final finish line!!
and with Ben afterwards.
With Luke after his finish...

And at this point we found out Bryce's error that caused him to forfeit ...they revamped the bike route and on a part of it the riders were supposed to make 2 loops...well, Bryce wasn't aware and only did one loop :(
So, needless to say... he's really disappointed he didn't get an official time - rookie mistake.
We're still really proud of him (and Luke!) -
but now he's hooked and planning on competing again!

Day 2 - no poo

I took a little pic while waiting for Ben at school yesterday...not too bad, ehh??
I found it. The article that started it all - if you care to read it.

Anyway, I got some apple cider vinegar (keep out of the eyes...I got a drop in mine - ouch!) so I could actually run my fingers through my hair and it helped alot. I also sprinkled a little powder in around my crown and when I clipped it up/back it holds better than before.
Really not hating it.
