Postnatal expectations

Bryce asked the other night "so how long do you think you'll wait before starting P90X after the baby is born? A week?" haha, what a sense of humor!

I found a very interesting article on some of the world's postnatal practices I wanted to share...

Guatemala - women in this country don't even try to get out of bed for 24 hours.

Malaysia - after birth, women aren't allowed to cook, clean or leave the house due to their vulnerability to evil spirits.

Bali - women do not enter the kitchen or wash their hair until the baby's umbilical cord stump falls off.

India - women are expected to be pampered by family members for 22 days while staying home to bond with the baby.

China/Japan - women "sit the month" which means they stay in bed for the first month of the babies life, only caring for the baby.

Panama/El Salvador - family members take care of the new mother for the first 40 days after the baby arrives.

Who said these countries are backwards? Although I plan on getting some fresh air & don't fear the evil spirits...I don't think they are so wrong about some things : ) lol
